Heritage Christian Academy split a pair of games in their season-opening KCAA Basketball Tip-Off Classic Friday in Somerset. The Warriors coasted to a 75-42 win over Micah Christian in the opener before falling to host Somerset Christian 68-55 in the nightcap.
Against Micah, the Warriors jumped out to a 21-8 lead in the first quarter and extended it to 40-22 by halftime. 11 different players scored for HCA, led by Josh Jones who had 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Gavin Fowler added 11 points and nine rebounds, while Dalton Folz also had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Shawn Marcum had 31 points to lead Micah.
A slow start buried HCA in the nightcap. Somerset jumped out to a 20-2 first quarter lead. HCA got to within 33-24 by halftime but could never get over the big first quarter deficit in the 13-point loss.
Fowler had 16 points for HCA, while Rajah Mills added 12 points. Dakota Brake scored 11 points and pulled down eight rebounds.
Mason Cunningham had 15 points for Somerset.
Heritage Christian (1-1) continues play in double-elimination tournament Saturday against Bethel.
