Fall break has not been kind to the Trigg County Lady Wildcat soccer team in recent years. Monday, they were a goal away from another stunning postseason loss during fall break, but Kali Oakley’s goal in the penalty kick session gave the Lady Wildcats a 3-2 win in the Fifth District semifinals. Trigg will play host Lyon County Tuesday for the district title.
Crittenden County came into the contest with just one win which came on Aug. 18. Trigg had swept the season series, winning by scores of 3-0 and 5-2 but fell behind 2-0 early to the Lady Rockets.
Madisen Ireland answered for the Lady Wildcats with a pair of goals to tie the game 2-2.
The contest then went to overtime where neither team scored in the five-minute extra periods.
In the penalty kick session, Brittney Kelly and Julia Rhone each scored for Trigg County. Crittenden County (1-12-2) equaled Trigg through four rounds but missed in the fifth round. Senior Kali Oakley knocked home the game-winner to send Trigg County to the district championship game Tuesday.
Trigg County (5-12-1) will play Lyon County (11-3) Tuesday at 6pm at Lee Jones Park in Eddyville. Trigg won the title last year, and Lyon County was the champion two years ago. Lyon County swept the season series from Trigg, winning by scores of 5-1 and 3-1.
