The Trigg County boys’ soccer team dropped their fourth 1-goal loss of the season with a 2-1 setback at Graves County on Saturday. The Wildcats lose their second-straight to drop to 10-5 overall, while the Eagles improve to 11-7.
A back-and-forth first half appeared headed for a scoreless, halftime tie, before Graves’ Antonio Reyes found the back of the net after a scramble in front of the Wildcats’ goal. Trigg County responded early in the second half when Elijah Gaines intercepted a pass from an Eagle defender and rolled the ball past goalkeeper Luis Macias to tie the game at 1-1.
Both teams had chances, but couldn’t capitalize until the Eagles drew a foul in the Wildcats 18-yard box for a penalty kick. Defender John Carillo calmly scored past Wildcats’ goalkeeper Matthew Smith, and the Eagles’ defense held firm over the final 20 minutes to seal the victory.
Trigg’s Smith saved 6 of the 7 shots he saw, with Macias coming up with 5 saves to earn the win for Graves County.
Trigg County will look to bounce back from its first back-to-back losses of the season with a trip to Russellville (8-8-1) on Monday. Graves County will also be back in action on Monday, facing another 2nd Region opponent at Fort Campbell (2-7-2).
