The Trigg County boys’ soccer team completed the regular-season sweep of Lyon County with a 4-1 victory in Eddyville on Monday night. The Wildcats were 6-0 winners in Cadiz earlier in the season, and move to 9-2 overall with the result. The Lyons slip to 1-11-1 on the year.
The physical contest was scoreless for most of the first half, until Trigg County freshman Daniel Jimenez scored to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead at the break. Only minutes into the second half, sophomore Will Jolly took a pass from Cristian Llarena and doubled the Trigg lead with a 20-yard shot past Lyon goalkeeper Justin Tabor.
However, the Lyons pulled one back when Trace Adams got on the end of a free kick from Jeremiah Wilkerson and scored on a header past Wildcat goalkeeper Matthew Smith. The 2-1 score held until Jolly drew a foul in the box and converted the penalty kick to give the Wildcats some breathing room with less than 10 minutes to play. In the final minutes, Trigg added the final score on an own goal by a Lyon defender. The Wildcats outshot the Lyons 9-3, with Smith making 2 saves to earn the win.
Trigg County will play its sixth game in nine days when it travels to Paducah Tilghman (6-6-1) on Tuesday. Lyon County will also be in action on Tuesday, hosting Mayfield (4-7) at Lee S. Jones Park.
