The Hopkins Central Storm broke open a close match with four second half goals on their way to a 5-1 7th District win over the Caldwell County Tigers at Butler Stadium Tuesday night. The Storm only led the match 1-0 at the break before taking control in the second half.
The Storm got on the board first at the 18:00 mark when Bryan Caballero found the net for the first time of the night to make it 1-0. That goal would hold up for the rest of the first half, as neither team could find the net over the next 22 minutes.
Hopkins Central extended the lead when Julio Rivera-Mena scored at 63:00 to make it 2-0. The Storm struck again just five minutes later when Caballero scored for the second time on the night to push the lead out to 3-0.
Caldwell County appeared to find a little momentum when Collin Shaffer squeezed one in from in front of the net to cut the lead to 3-1 at 74:00.
However, the Storm sealed the win as Gavin Lear scored two goals in the final two minutes to make it a four goal victory.
Caldwell County drops to 1-7-1, and gets ready for another 7th District battle Thursday evening at home against Madisonville. Hopkins Central improves to 4-9.
