Going into halftime, it looked like the UHA Lady Blazers and the Caldwell County Lady Tigers might go right down to the wire. Caldwell County had battled back from a two goal deficit to tie the match, and appeared to have gained the momentum against a UHA team that was still dealing with some key injuries.
UHA responded to the challenge on their home field by scoring two goals in the first four minutes of the second half to take control of the match. The Lady Blazers would go on to defeat Caldwell County by a final score of 6-3.
The Lady Blazers got on the board first on the evening. Alex Juckett headed in a rebound of a shot from Kate Cansler to put UHA on top 1-0 just three and a half minutes into the match. Nine minutes later, Lilly Strader drilled one from out front to extend the lead to 2-0.
Caldwell County, however, was not going to go quietly in this one. After a foul in the box on UHA, Allissa Trayor scored the penalty kick to cut the UHA lead to 2-1 at the 30:00 mark. Three minutes later, Laney Fletcher blasted one in from the right side to even it up at 2-2.
UHA quickly took the momentum back in the opening minutes of the 2nd half. Kate Cansler scored her first goal of the night at 41:30 to put the Lady Blazers back in front 3-2. Lilly Stader came up with her second goal of the night at 43:45 to push the margin out to 4-2.
The score would stay that way until the 65:30 mark, when Cansler found the net for the second time of the night to extend the lead to 5-2.
Caldwell County’s Becca Siebert cut the lead to 5-3 when she scored at the 75:45 mark.
UHA sealed the win with a goal from Ashlyn Parker inside the final two minutes to make the final score 6-3.
