Trigg County knew they might struggle offensively when they lost their leading scorer to injury last week, but the impact has been bigger than expected. The Lady Wildcats were shut out for the second consecutive match in a 2-0 loss at Todd County Central Tuesday. It was the first time in three seasons the two schools played and was Todd Central’s fourth straight win over Trigg County.

Both teams struggled to find an offensive rhythm early as they exchanged kicks in the midfield for the most part. Todd County struck first when Maddye Drummond poked home a shot in front of the net with six minutes left in the first half.

Todd County’s defensive backs continually kept Trigg County from getting any good looks down the sidelines and kept them off the scoreboard.

Nikita Shutts, who began the season in goal but has been moved to midfield, booted one home from 40 yards to give the Lady Rebels an insurance goal in the 71st minute.

Trigg County appeared set to get on the scoreboard four minutes later but a penalty kick sailed high.

Rachel Bilyeu faced only five shots in goal and picked up her first shutout of the season. Bilyeu and a couple of other teammates, who played last year but did not come out for the team in August, had a chance of heart and have returned in time to give the Lady Rebels some much needed depth at the right time.

Trigg County (2-7), who has scored 12 goals in nine games, will try and rebound Friday against a Christian County team that has allowed just 16 goals in seven games. Trigg is expected to be without leading scorer Madisen Ireland (ankle) for another week.

Todd County Central (2-5) will play at Russellville Thursday.
