Crittenden County showed why they are a favorite to challenge for the Class 1A Region One title this year. Trigg County showed they still have some work to do ahead of their district schedule that begins Sept. 21.
The Rockets rolled up 586 yards of offense and handed Trigg County a 46-7 loss Friday at Perdue Field. It was Crittenden’s largest win over the Wildcats in the 40-game history of the series.
Hunter Boone was 23-of-37 passing for 318 yards and four touchdowns, while Devon Nesbitt rushed for 200 yards and two scores.
For the second straight week, Trigg County struggled to piece together an effective running attack. They were held to minus-7 yards in the first half and finished the game with 26 yards on 27 carries.
Nesbitt got Crittenden County on the board with 9:04 left in the first quarter on a 22-yard run. The Rockets were beginning another drive when Jakobe Bridges jumped a route and picked off a Boone pass and returned it 20 yards for Trigg’s only touchdown of the game.
Crittenden regained the lead for good when Boone hit Ethan Dossett on a 7-yard scoring pass with 4:18 left in the opening quarter. It was the first of two consecutive touchdowns for Dossett, who caught 10 passes for 156 yards.
Nesbitt added his second touchdown of the night on a 17-yard run with 11:12 left in the first half.
Payton Riley closed out the scoring for the Rockets in the first half on a 13-yard pass from Boone with 8:05 left on the clock.
Crittenden County led 32-7 at halftime and had outgained Trigg County 348 to 52 in total yards.
Neither team scored in the third quarter with Crittenden County getting fourth quarter scores on a 12-yard pass from Boone to Branen Lamey and a 3-yard run by Xander Tabor.
In addition to Nesbitt’s 200-yard rushing night, Tabor added 46 yards on four carries.
Ryan Graff’s 11-yard run in the fourth quarter made him the leading rusher on the night for the Wildcats.
Cam Jordan was 17-of-29 passing for 139 yards. Kyron Grubbs caught six passes for 50 yards.
Trigg County was penalized 11 times for 100 yards, while Crittenden County was flagged nine times for 85 yards.
The win was Crittenden County’s first at Perdue Field since 1998 and the 39-point margin was their largest ever in 40 career meetings with Trigg dating back to 1957.
Crittenden County (2-0) will travel to Princeton Friday for a border showdown with Caldwell County.
Trigg County (1-2) will host a Ballard Memorial team that lost to Marshall County 70-52 Friday.
