University Heights Academy opened their 2018 cross country season at one of the larger opening races in the state – the St. Xavier Tiger Run in Louisville.
Tomas Duncan led the Blazers with a 29th place finish in a time of 17:17 over the 3.1-mile course. Freshman Walter Kunnmann finished 172nd in 19:51, followed by Chase Hendricks in 221st (21:53); Luke Shouse in 244th (23:56), Trey Wyatt in 247th (24:25); and Aiden Davis in 261st (26:51).
Keeton Thornsberry of Louisville Holy Cross, the defending Class A champion, won the race in a time of 15:54 — 22 seconds ahead of second place Austin Stallings of Owensboro Catholic.
As a team, the UHA boys finished in 27th place.
For the ladies, Muki Kunnmann began her senior season with a 64th place finish in a time of 22:56. Freshman Piper Hancock, who also starts on the Lady Blazer soccer team, finished 109th in a time of 24:11.
Savannah York finished 10th in the freshmen girls’ race, completing the 4K course in 18:50.
