Caldwell County Outlasts Christian County in 4 Sets

They had to work for it, but the Caldwell County Lady Tigers picked up their second win in a row to open the volleyball season Tuesday night. Caldwell County held off a game effort from a pesky Christian County squad to take the match 3-1.

In the opening set, the Lady Tigers opened quickly and then held steady to take the set 25-16.

In the second set, the Lady Colonels went toe-to-toe with Caldwell County early in the set, before Caldwell County finally pulled away down the stretch for another 25-16 win to go up 2-0 in the match.

Things got a bit more interesting in the third set. A fired up Christian County squad jumped out to an early 7-2 lead. The Lady Colonels extended the lead to 11-4 midway through the set. Caldwell County rallied but could never get to the front, as Christian County held on to take the set 25-22.

The Lady Tigers settled the issue early in the 4th set. Caldwell County jumped out to an 11-2 lead, extending it to 14-3, and then coming away with the 25-16 win to close out the match.

Caldwell County had big evenings from Olivia Mitchell, Sheadon Allen, and Abby Griggs. For Christian County, in addition to the usual high-flying efforts of Ariyonna Johnson, Macy Baker, Elizabeth Gibbs, and Jaquavia Bailey, all had big nights.

Caldwell County (2-0) returns to the court Thursday night at Webster County. Christian County (0-2) goes cross-town to take on UHA in an 8th District matchup Thursday night.

Caldwell County also won both the freshman and the JV contests. The Lady Tigers won in straight sets in the freshman match 21-9, 21-9. The JV contest was a straight set win at 21-5, 21-6.
