After starting the season hot with a 4-0 record, the Hoptown Hoppers (4-1) were bested by the Owensboro RiverDawgs (5-0) Tuesday night, 9-1.
The game was a defensive stare-down through three innings with neither team allowing a hit. However, in the fourth inning, Owensboro managed to net seven runs.
While Cole Cummings was able to put the Hoppers on the board in the sixth, the RiverDawgs bested the Hoppers yet again by scoring two of their own in the inning.
Neither team scored the rest of the way and the decision was reached in nine innings.
Aiden Elias and Cody Hartness recorded the Hoppers’ two hits Tuesday night. Starting pitcher Sam Traver (four earned runs) was given the loss.
Austin Peterson, Najay King, Nick Sanders and Wyatt Daly had four hits each for the RiverDawgs. Tony Barrera (eight K’s through six innings) earned the win.
The Hoppers will travel to Dubois County on Wednesday before they return to action on their home field for Thursday and Friday night.
Thursday’s game against the Henderson Flash will be the first of the two-game home stand. The second will be against the Fulton Railroaders on Friday.
First pitch is set for 7 P.M. both nights.
