The Hoptown Hoppers rallied for a 7-5 win at Muhlenberg County Sunday to remain unbeaten on the young baseball season.

The Hoppers trailed 5-2 after five innings before scoring five runs over the final four innings to get the win. A bases-loaded walk to Cole Cummings in the fifth inning plated Hoptown’s third run of the night and proved to be a foreshadowing of their later comeback.

Cummings took a bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning ahead of the bases loaded walk by Davis Keller and an RBI hit batsman to Ryan Traylor that gave the Hoppers a 6-5 lead.

In the ninth inning, Max Remy reached on an error and came around to score when MJ Rookard’s ground ball was booted on the infield.

The Hoppers got 4.1 innings of hitless relief from their bullpen of Kendall Marshall, Tyler Graham, and Brian Coffey, with Coffey striking out two in the ninth for the save. Marshall pitched 2.1 innings and struck out five for the win.

Rookard continued his hot start to the season with a pair of hits, while Aiden Elias smacked a home run. Malik Blaise also had two hits, and Traylor drove in a pair of runs.

The Hoppers are off to a 4-0 start for the fourth time in the past five seasons and remain a half-game ahead of Paducah in the OVL West standings. The Chiefs beat Dubois County 12-5 Sunday.

Hoptown begins a two-game road swing north when they play at Owensboro Tuesday and at Dubois County Wednesday.
