Per Wenyen Gabriel’s Twitter handle, he announced this afternoon that he will remain in the NBA Draft.
You can watch the video here.
Remaining in the draft will disqualify him from being eligible to return to Kentucky.
Gabriel averaged 6.8 points and 5.4 rebounds this past season, an increase from 4.6 points and 4.8 rebounds his freshman season.
Gabriel’s biggest moments came at the end of the season. The sophomore forward aided Kentucky’s SEC Title run with a career-high 23 points against Alabama. He also added 12 against Tennessee in the championship game.
In the second round of the NCAA Tournament, he posted 16 points against Buffalo.
Gabriel’s hustle and ability to stretch the floor will certainly be missed next season, but due to his financial situation, it was time for him to take the next step.
It’s likely Gabriel will land in either the NBA G-League or on a team overseas.
