The Christian County softball team picked up a win at the McCracken County Round Robin to close out the regular season on Saturday, dispatching Woodford County 6-1. The Lady Colonels finish on a fourteen-game unbeaten streak and remain perfect against in-state competition at 29-3-1. Woodford County heads into the postseason at 21-8.
The teams traded runs in the second, with the Lady Colonels loading the bases with no outs before Regan Hancock drew a walk for their first run. However, a double play and a ground-out stranded three runners.
Christian County took its first lead in the third on an RBI sacrifice fly by Reni Shemwell, and added another when Tyler Shemwell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The Lady Colonels finished things off in the bottom of the sixth with Hope Jones doubling in 2 runs and Reni Shemwell reaching on an error to score Jones.
Hannah Sumner got a strikeout and two ground-outs in the top of the seventh to finish a complete-game four-hitter, striking-out six and walking two. Jones was 3-4 at the plate, driving-in 2 and scoring twice. Pickle Winkler had two hits and drew a walk, with Hancock and Reni and Tyler Shemwell each driving-in a run.
Caroline Marshall took the loss for the Lady Yellow Jackets, lasting three innings and allowing 4 runs, 3 earned, on two hits with three strikeouts and five walks.
The Lady Colonels were scheduled to face Central Hardin later Saturday, but the game was cancelled. They begin postseason play in the 8th District tournament on Monday, facing the fourth-seeded Fort Campbell Lady Falcons.
