Freshman Travis Yancy earned the win on the mound and drove-in a seventh-inning run to help Lyon County to a 5-3 win over hosts Murray High on Friday night. The Lyons snap a two-game skid to end the regular season at 12-13, while Murray loses its fifth straight to fall to 7-18.
Over the first three frames, Murray twice took a 1-run lead with the Lyons equalizing each time. However, the Tigers tied it with a run in the bottom of the inning.
The Lyons edged in front in the top of the seventh on a balk by Tiger pitcher Hunter Utley that brought home Jake Kleuppel. Yancy followed with an RBI single to double the margin at 5-3.
After six strong innings, Yancy yielded a single and a walk to start the bottom of the seventh, giving way to Gabe Board. Board retired the next three Tiger batters to nail down the victory.
Yancy went 6.0 innings while allowing 3 runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts and three walks. He also collected a couple of hits and an RBI, followed by Kleuppel with a hit and a RBI and Board with an RBI.
