Lady Lyons Overcome Slow Start to Topple Livingston

The Lyon County softball team trailed into the fifth inning on Thursday night in Smithland, but used a 6-run inning to pull away from Livingston Central 10-3.  The victory is the Lady Lyons’ third-straight, improving their record to 16-10.  The Lady Cardinals have lost eight-straight to slip to 1-13 overall.

After falling behind 2-0 in the opening inning, Sophie Bingham got Lyon on the board in the top of the third with a triple to score Sydney Melton.  Still trailing by a run in the top of the fifth, the Lady Lyons erupted for 6 runs to push into the lead.  Bingham got it started with an RBI double, followed by a 2-run homer from Calista Collins.  Kerstin Craft and Rachel Coursey both had RBI singles to round out the inning.

Collins was at it again in the sixth with an RBI double, followed again by RBI from Craft and Coursey for a 10-2 lead.  The Lady Cardinals got 1 back in their half of the inning, but Bingham sat them down in order in the seventh to close it out.

Bingham went the distance for the win, yielding 3 runs, 2 earned, on seven hits with twelve strikeouts and a walk.  Bingham and Collins both went 3-4, knocking-in 2 and 3, respectively.  Coursey and Gracen Wynn both collected two hits, with Coursey driving-in 2.  Craft got a hit and an RBI and Tori Schenk had a hit.

Madison Bolte took the loss for Livingston Central, working 6.0 innings and surrendering 10 runs on ten hits with three walks and a strikeout.  Calista Jennings was 1-3 with an RBI.

Lyon County will be back home on Friday when they welcome Ballard Memorial to Eddyville for a doubleheader.
