A slow start snowballed for Dylan Edmonson and Brady Bilyeu in their region doubles title match, and the duo fell to top seed Tanner Ray and Kyle Hart 6-1, 6-2 Wednesday at the Second Region Tennis Tournament in Henderson.
The UHA tandem, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, coasted to a pair of easy wins in the first two rounds before grinding out a three-set win over Hopkinsville’s Morgan Demps and Noah Morris in the semifinals Tuesday.
Edmonson and Bilyeu struggled with their first serve throughout the match and could never find their rhythm.
It was the first time since 2015 that UHA placed a doubles team in the title match. Dylan’s brother Blake teamed with Hendley Traughber to advance to consecutive championship matches, winning the 2015 title.
In addition to the finalists, Demps and Morris from Hopkinsville as well as Jarred Crone and Cobie Pyle from Hopkins County Central will advance to the KHSAA State Tennis Tournament May 17-19 in Lexington.
