In girls’ singles play at the 2nd Region tournament in Henderson on Monday, Kate Bennett and Sophia Maddux each won their opening match before falling in the second round. Bennett beat Lyon County’s Zoe Board 6-2, 6-0 and lost 6-4, 7-5 to Union County’s Tori Collins, while Maddux advanced past Hopkins Central’s Chloe Mackey 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) before losing in the quarterfinals 6-0, 6-2 to Fort Campbell’s Brittney Ketchum.
Doubles team Mitali Patel and Kelsee Freeman beat Fort Campbell 6-2, 6-1, but lost their second match 6-1, 6-2 to Henderson.
In boys’ singles play, Rohan Desai dropped his opener 6-4, 6-2 to Christian County’s Camilo Cuadros.
The doubles team of Hunter Traughber and Ethan Alexander opened play with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Webster County and will return to the court on Tuesday against Hopkins County Central. The 2nd-seeded duo of Dylan Edmonson and Brady Bilyeu advanced to the semifinals and punched their ticket to the state tournament with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Christian County and a 6-2, 6-3 result against Caldwell. They will meet Hoptown’s Morgan Demps and Noah Morris on Tuesday with a spot in the final on the line.
