Christian County opened play in the Town and County Classic in Hopkinsville with a 9-1 loss to Ohio County on Thursday. The loss is the second in a row for the Colonels, dropping them to 5-9 on the year. Ohio County has won six of seven to improve to 7-4.
The Colonels found themselves down 4-0 in the bottom of third inning, before a single by junior Eric Silvey brought home junior Patrick Croney to cut the lead to 3. However, that would be all the offense the Colonels could muster, and the Eagles added 2 runs in the fourth and 3 in the sixth for the 9-1 victory.
Junior Wyatt Stevenson suffered the loss for the Colonels, pitching 3.0 innings and allowing 4 earned runs on five hits with a couple of strikeouts and a walk. Stevenson and Silvey had the only two hits.
Eagles’ senior Blaine Gillim went 6.0 innings for the win, only giving up a run on two hits with eight strikeouts and two walks. Gillim was also 3-3 at the plate and drove-in 3, with senior Zach Gledhill going 4-5 with 2 RBI.
The Colonels continue play in the Town and County Classic on Friday, facing 3-9 Grayson County.
