Calista Collins belted a go-ahead three-run homerun in the sixth inning to send Lyon County past Crittenden County 8-7 in a key Fifth District matchup Thursday in Marion.
Down 7-4 entering the sixth inning, Gracen Wynn led off with a double, Sydney Melton drew a walk, and Sophie Bingham followed with an RBI single to make the score 7-5. Collins then belted the next pitch over the center field fence for the lead.
Crittenden County put the potential winning run on base in the seventh inning, but Bingham induced an infield popup to end the game.
The Lady Rockets outhit Lyon 15-11 but left 12 runners on base. Collins had three of Lyon’s hits and drove in five on the night. Melton, Wynn, and Kaelyn Conger each had two hits, with Melton adding two RBIs.
Bingham allowed two earned runs and struck out five to pick up the win in the circle.
Jada Hayes, Karissa Terry, and Jenna Potter each had three hits for Crittenden County (8-4, 1-1). All 15 of their hits were singles.
Lyon County (7-7, 1-1) hosts Calloway County Friday and will play in the Trigg County Lady Wildcat Invitational Saturday.
