What was supposed to be a tough three game test for the Christian County Lady Colonels instead turned out to be a chance for the team to not only establish itself as a regional contender, but to also send some notice across the state as well. Friday night, the Lady Colonels routed Apollo 12-2.
The win over the E-Gals was the Lady Colonels fifth in a row, and capped off a three game stretch where Christian County beat South Warren, McCracken County, and Apollo by a combined score of 33-4.
Christian County scored three runs in the bottom of the first and added five more in the bottom of the second to essentially put the game away early. The Lady Colonels would add a run in the 4th, two more in the 5th, and one in the 6th that ended the game due to the 10-run rule. Apollo scored single runs in the top of the 3rd and top of the 5th.
Hope Jones had another big night for Christian County going 3-4 at the plate with 3 RBI’s. Tyler Shemwell was 3-3, with 3 RBIs, including a two run home run, and two doubles. Taylor Shemwell went 2-4 in the game with an RBI, and Halle Hendricks was 2-3 at the plate.
In the circle, Regan Hancock and Hannah Sumner combined to hold Apollo to 2 runs on seven hits. Each pitched three innings in the game.
Christian County improved to 11-2, while Apollo fell to 7-2.
