Brody Bridges’ solo home run sparked a 3-run second inning that sent Lyon County to a 6-2 win over Livingston Central in the quarterfinals of the Second Region All-A Classic Monday in Smithland.
Bridges took the first pitch from Cameron Head over the left field fence to tie the game at 1-1. Gunnar Bingham and Jake Kleuppel followed with a double and single, and Keaton Bridges drove in Bingham with an infield single. An error scored the third run of the inning for the Lyons.
Lyon added a run in the third inning when Travis Yancy and Brody Bridges had back-to-back doubles. The Lyons made it 5-1 in the fourth inning when Keaton Bridges doubled, and Max Wadlington singled him home.
A Bingham double in the fifth inning drove in a run and closed out the scoring for the Lyons.
Yancy, Bingham, both Bridges’, and Wadlington each had two hits for the Lyons, who had 12 hits in the contest.
Lefty Christian Whalin held the Cardinals in check for the night, allowing just three hits, no earned runs and struck out four. Wadlington got the final out for the save.
Cameron Head gave up five earned runs in just under six innings for Livingston Central. He struck out two and didn’t walk anyone. Head and Braxton Bebout had doubles at the plate for Livingston (4-3).
Lyon County (4-1) will play defending All-A region champion Caldwell County Tuesday night at 5:30 in the semifinals at UHA’s Simmons Field.
