Trigg County concluded play in the Chop House Classic by splitting their two games Friday in Kingsport, Tenn.
The Wildcats dropped their opener to Seymour, Tenn. 6-0 but rallied to beat Unicoi County, Tenn. 4-3. It was their second win in as many days over Unicoi County thanks to a reshuffling of the Friday schedule in a successful attempt to beat incoming rain.
In the opener, Trigg County managed just three hits in a 6-0 loss to Seymour, Tenn. Jake Terrell and Micah Brown had singles, and Ashton Plymale had a double. Plymale suffered the pitching loss, giving up seven hits in six innings along with three earned runs. She struck out seven and walked two.
In the second game of the day, Trigg County fell behind 3-0 before scoring twice in the second and twice in the fourth to grab a 4-3 win – their second one-run win over the Blue Devils in as many days.
Unicoi used three singles and a double in the second to take a 3-0 lead.
Trigg got two back when Micah Brown singled ahead of a Trevor Cortner RBI single. Nick Ahart, who reached on a fielder’s choice, scored the second run on a Unicoi error.
In the fourth inning, Nick Ahart had an RBI single and Riley Stallons followed with an RBI double for a 4-3 Trigg lead.
After giving up three runs in the third, Jake Terrell settled down on the mound for the Wildcats, retiring nine of the next 10 batters he faced. He only allowed two hits over the final five innings.
For the contest, Terrell allowed seven hits and struck out four while issuing no walks in picking up his first win of the year.
Trigg County (3-2) returns to western Kentucky where they will play at Russellville Monday.
