The Christian County Colonels completed a tough Spring Break trip to Memphis Saturday. The Colonels dropped their 5th game in row, losing 9-6 to Cape Central High School.
Cape Central scored 4 runs in the bottom of the second, and three more in the bottom of the 3rd to take control of the game.
Christian County got on the board first in the top of the second inning. Jase Polley led off the inning with a double and then scored two batters later on a sacrifice bunt by Keith Stallons.
After Cape Central plated four runs in the bottom of the inning, the Colonels battled their way back into the game in the top of the 3rd inning. After the first two batters of the inning were hit by pitches, Wyatt Stevenson singled, driving in Austin Fields to cut the lead to 4-2. After the third hit batter of the inning, Cameron Crider singed, scoring Eric Silvy. Stallons then singled to drive in Stevenson and Jase Polley to put Christian County in front 5-4.
The lead did not last long however, as Cape Central plated three runs in the bottom of the inning to go back in front at 7-5. Central added some insurance in the bottom of the 5th inning on back to back doubles, which extended their lead to 9-5.
The Colonels tried to rally in their final at bat, but came up just short. A hit batter, and error, and a walk loaded the bases with one out and brought the tying run to the plate for Christian County. After Wyatt Stevenson flied out to left field, Lane Duiguid walked, forcing in a run to make it a 9-6 game and bring the go ahead run to the plate. However, Polley popped out on the infield to end the game.
Eric Silvy went 2-3 for Christian County. Keith Stallons was 1-3 with 3 RBIs. Wyatt Stevenson went 1-3 for the game, and knocked in a run.
Jase Polley went five innings on the mound, giving up nine runs on 10 hits, striking out four and walking one. Austin Fields went one inning for the Colonels, giving up no runs on no hits, and striking out two.
