The Caldwell County Lady Tigers got to play softball for the first time since March 22, and came away with their first win of the season Friday afternoon. Caldwell County got a strong performance from Katie Franklin in the circle to come away with the 5-1 five inning win over Riverside in the Jackson County Tournament, in Cookeville, Tennessee. The game was limited to five innings due to a 75-minute per game time limit.
Caldwell County, who had not played since a 4-2 loss to Webster County, got on the board early, putting up two runs in the top of the 1st inning. Allie Felker walked to open the game, and advanced on a single by Moshea Glover. After both runners advanced on a steal, Madi Choate singled to drive them both in and give Caldwell County a 2-0 lead.
Riverside put together a double, a walk, and a single to get one of the runs back to make it 2-1 after the first inning.
Caldwell County extended the lead in the top of the 3rd inning. Felker walked again to lead off the inning. After Felker stole second, Franklin hit a single to right field to make it 3-1 Lady Tigers. After Franklin stole second and third, Madi Choate laid down the sacrifice to make it a 4-1 Caldwell County lead.
The Lady Tigers added an insurance run in the top of the 4th inning. Jamie Burke led off the inning with a double and later scored on an RBI single by Peyton Young to make it 5-1.
Franklin then closed the door on Riverside in the bottom of the 4th and the bottom of the 5th to seal the win.
Madi Choate led the Caldwell County attack going 2-2 with 3 RBI’s in the game. Katie Franklin was 1-3 with an RBI, and Peyton Young went 2-2 with an RBI.
