Mallory Lane hit a two-out, two-run homerun in the eighth inning to give Hatton, Alabama a 5-4 walk-off softball win over Christian County Tuesday night, sending the Lady Colonels to their first loss of the season.

Christian County had taken a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh when courtesy runner Macey Dukes scored on a Hatton fielding error.

Emma Latham singled for Hatton in the eighth with the freshman Lane following with the homer to left field.  Latham, who hit 19 homers last year as a sophomore, singled twice and was walked three times in the game. She was the only Hornet in the game with multiple hits.

Lexie O’Daniel had three hits for Christian County, including a solo homerun in the fifth inning, and Hope Jones added a double.

Hatton, located south of Muscle Shoals in the city of Town Creek, has won the Alabama Class 2A state softball title five of the last seven years.

Christian County (5-1) returns to action Wednesday in Madison against James Clemens High, who features Alabama-Huntsville signee Eve Mallard and Wallace State signee Jordan McMeans.

On Thursday, Christian County will play Alabama Class 7A runner-up Sparkman High, who is led by Western Kentucky signee Taylor Davis, who batted .500 last year.
