Lyon County used an 11-0 run to cap off a bizarre finish to their Fifth District Semifinal with Trigg County and escape with a 46-44 win in Marion Monday. The win moves the Lyons into Thursday’s championship game.

With Trigg leading 44-43 with 9.2 seconds left, Lyon inbounded the ball to Gabe Board who dribbled to the top of the key and briefly lost the basketball. He regained control and forced a shot with 2.8 seconds left. Trigg’s Kirome Bingham was called for the foul, but the clock continued to run until the buzzer sounded with zeroes showing on the scoreboard.

Video showed Board was inside the 3-point arc when the foul was called with 2.8 seconds. After conferring, the three officials awarded Board three free throws and put 0.5 seconds on the clock. Board knocked down all three free throws, and Trigg County was not able to get off a final shot.

Kendric Adams scored with 2:47 left to give Trigg County a 44-35 lead. The Wildcats would not score again as their implosion went on full display at Rocket Arena. Trigg’s next three possessions were an offensive foul and a pair of turnovers on inbounds plays. Sandwiched in there was Devron Triplet, Trigg’s leading scorer, fouling out.

Eighth grader Jackson Shoulders scored five straight points, and Board hit a 3-pointer with :54 left to bring Lyon to within 44-43. Trigg County missed three consecutive front ends of the bonus, part of a 1-for-7 second half free throw effort. In addition to five missed free throws in the final period, Trigg turned the ball over five times that led to seven Lyon points.

Trigg County led by nine points at halftime and by as many as 11 in the second half before the Lyons began their late rally.

Board led the Lyons with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Shoulders added 14 points and seven rebounds.

Eighth grader Kendric Adams led the Wildcats with 13 points and eight rebounds, while Triplet added 11 points.

Trigg County finishes the season with an 11-14 record and a seven-game losing streak. The Wildcats ended last season with a loss to Lyon County in the district tournament and an eight-game losing streak.

Lyon County (8-17) will play Crittenden County (6-19) Thursday night at 7pm for the Fifth District championship.
