Hoptown Runs Past Lady Blazers 75-36

Hopkinsville’s pressure defense keyed a 24-5 third quarter run that propelled them to a 75-36 district win over University Heights Thursday at Tiger Gym. The win secured the two-seed for the Lady Tigers in the Eighth District Tournament that begins in two weeks. UHA will be the three seed which means the teams will play again in the first round of the tournament.

Jayla Rose scored 14 of Hopkinsville’s 24 points in the third quarter. She finished with a game-high 26 points.

Breon Oldham scored 16 points for the Lady Tigers, and London Foster hit a trio of 3-pointers to finish with 13 points.

Hoptown led 23-12 after one quarter and built their advantage to 43-23 at halftime. UHA managed just 13 points in the second half.

Anshanique Leavell led the Lady Blazers with 13 points, and Lily Hendricks added nine points.

UHA, who has dropped six straight games, fell to 8-15 with the loss and will travel to Dawson Springs Thursday for their season finale.

Hopkinsville improved to 16-8 with the win and will play Calloway County Saturday afternoon in the Independence Shootout at Murray High School.
