With their two recent wins over UHA and a win over Hopkinsville, the Christian County Colonels have solidified their hold on the top spot in this week’s YSE 2nd Region Boys Basketball Rankings. Hopkinsville moves up a spot to make the top 3 the 8th District club.

1. Christian County (16-6) – In the past week, two wins over UHA, a double overtime thriller win against Henderson County, and an easy win over Fort Campbell. Colonels starting to cement their position as the team to beat in the 2nd Region.

2. UHA (14-7) – Two tough losses to Christian County. In between, however, was a solid road win at Bowling Green. That district semifinal with Hopkinsville, where one wins and goes on to the region and the other goes home is gonna be a dandy,

3. Hopkinsville (11-11) – The Tigers now have the team on the floor they were hoping to have at the beginning of the season. The next ten days will tell us a lot. Games coming up against Christian County, UHA, McCracken County, and Owensboro. They will be well tested down the stretch.

4. Madisonville (16-8) – Since their win over Hopkinsville in January, the Maroons have beaten the teams they are supposed to beat, but have missed opportunities to get some statement wins. Enough to drop them one spot in the rankings.

5. Henderson County (12-10) – Over the last week, call em the “Cardiac Colonels.” They lose in double overtime to Christian County, then hold on to beat Livingston Central and Apollo. They are starting to look like a team that could either drop a bad game at the wrong moment, or yet pull off a big upset against anyone. Not a fun team to face at tourney time.

6. Livingston Central (16-11) – The Cardinals missed a big chance to make a big statement Monday night, coming up just short on the road at Henderson County. But, it gave them a chance to play on the regional tournament floor. Another team that should scare a bunch of teams headed to tourney time.

7. Webster County (15-9) – The Trojans have stumbled a bit coming down towards the finish line, losing five of their last eight games. They did pick up a solid win on the road at Hopkins Central. A rematch with Livingston looms on the horizon.

8. Hopkins Central (13-9) – The Storm had a chance Monday night to make a statement against Webster County, but fell to the Trojans in Mortons Gap. Central responded by going on the road and picking up a win at Lyon County.

9. Union County (11-13) – The Braves were just about to climb over Hopkins Central, after wins over Webster County and McLean County, but there are those two losses to the Storm, including one by 26 points that they need to do a little more to overcome.

10. Caldwell County (10-12) – Tigers have been in a bit of a funk lately. Five losses in their last eight games, and all but one of those five losses has been by at least double figures. A tough semifinal matchup in the district tournament against Hopkins Central coming up in a couple of weeks.

11. Trigg County (11-10) – The Wildcats have lost four of their last five contests following losses to Hopkinsville and Todd Central over the past week. Not a pattern you want to see this close to tourney time.

12. Lyon County (6-15) – A heartbreaking loss to St. Mary on Saturday, and then a tough loss to a solid Hopkins Central team Tuesday night. Despite the record, you could still see this team cutting down the nets in Marion at the 5th District tournament. As you could the other three teams playing as well.

13. Crittenden County (5-14) – Rockets have lost five of their last six games, with the only win coming over the Fort Campbell Falcons. The good news for the Rockets is the 5th District tournament is on their floor.

14. Dawson Springs (7-15) – A win over Frederick Fraize and a loss to the Caldwell County Tigers. Just enough to keep the Panthers off the bottom spot on the ladder.

15. Fort Campbell (3-17) – The Falcons have won only one game since December 11, and most of the losses have been games that were never in question. A tough year for the Falcons, and to top it off, they get to open the district tournament against Christian County.
