Anshanique Leavell scored 22 points, including her 1,000th career point, but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Blazers fell to Russellville 42-36 at Blazer Gym.
Leavell scored 15 of UHA’s 16 first half points but was held without a field goal in the second half. She did manage 7-of-10 shooting at the free throw line.
The game was tied 16-16 at halftime, but Russellville outscored the Lady Blazers 14-8 in the third quarter which proved to be the difference in the game.
Anna Fitzpatrick joined Leavell in double figures with 10 points.
Lily Hendricks, UHA’s second leading scorer at 13 ppg. and the region’s second most accurate 3-point shooter (44%), missed the game after she was hit in the face with an errant basketball before the game started.
Carleigh Phillips led Russellville (4-16) with 10 points.
University Heights (8-14) plays at Hopkinsville Thursday.
