Racers Win Another OVC Rifle Title

The Murray State rifle team took home its third consecutive OVC title and 13th overall Sunday, as the Racers won the 2018 OVC Rifle Championships at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range in Murray, Kentucky. Murray State’s 2367 in air rifle propelled it to its 13th air rifle crown en route to a final aggregate score of 4707.

Robert Broadstreet led MSU in the event with a 595, while Ben Estes and Ivan Roe followed with a 591. Barbara Schläpfer rounded out the counters for MSU with a 590, while MacKenzie Martin shot a 586. Ivan Roe led all shooters in aggregate score in the event with an 1176, while Estes and Martin were just one point off at 1175. Morehead State finished second in the event with a total of 4637, while Jacksonville State and UT Martin followed with a 4626 and a 4599.

After the match, the Racers swept all four major awards with Dana Buesseler being named as OVC Freshman of the Year, Martin being named as OVC Smallbore Athlete of the Year, Broadstreet being named as OVC Air Rifle Athlete of the Year and Alan Lollar being named as the OVC Coach of the Year for the sixth time in 11 years.

In All-Conference honors, Broadstreet, Roe, Estes and Schläpfer earned first team honors in air rifle, while Martin, Roe, Estes and Schläpfer were the first team honorees in smallbore. For the second team, Martin earned the honor in air rifle, while Sellars earned the nod in smallbore.
