Hopkinsville took Trigg County’s best shot in the first half and then used two big runs in their 93-45 win over Trigg County Saturday at Tiger Gym.

The Tigers jumped out to a 14-0 lead to start the game, but Trigg battled back to within 19-14. Hoptown led 25-15 after one quarter and was up 30-22 before ending the half on a 20-4 run. Don Victor came off the bench to score 11 points during the run, including a trio of 3-pointers.

After Kyron Grubbs opened the half with a bucket, Hoptown reeled off ten straight to put the Tigers up 60-28. Another 14-0 run helped put a running clock in effect and end the game.

The 93 points allowed was the most this season by a Trigg County team that entered the game giving up 50.1 points per game.

Hoptown won just about every stat category thanks to their athleticism and depth. Hoptown shot 55-percent from the field, including 7-of-15 long range. The Tigers have hit 44 threes in their last four games. Hoptown also outrebounded Trigg 41-14 and forced 23 turnovers. However, Wildcat Coach Payton Croft was pleased with Trigg’s effort in the game and their inability to throw in the towel.

Jalen Johnson paced four players in double figures with 17 points and 10 rebounds. James Nicholas added 16 points and six rebounds, while Victor scored 13 points.

Kirome Bingham and Kendric Adams each scored 11 points for Trigg County.

Trigg County (11-9) will host Todd County Central Tuesday.

The win was the 198th for Tiger Coach Tim Haworth, tying him with Daryl Hallmark for the most in Hopkinsville basketball history. It was also Hoptown’s 12th straight win over Trigg County.

Hopkinsville (11-11) will host University Heights Thursday at Tiger Gym.
