Trigg County is on pace to set a school record in scoring defense this year. Through 16 games, the Lady Wildcats are giving up just 42.8 points a game. The previous low was 45.7 points allowed in 1975.

However, scoring is a problem that contributed to a 33-26 loss to Crittenden County Thursday at Wildcat Gym. Trigg is averaging 37.3 points a game offensively, which is on pace for the fourth lowest in program history.

The Lady Wildcats gave up just one point in the first quarter Thursday but only scored one as well.

Despite their shooting woes, Trigg County took a 23-22 lead with 4:08 left on a Lauren Oliver bucket. Crittenden responded with an 8-0 run as the Lady Wildcats went 3:47 without a point despite several close looks at the basket.

Trigg got to within six points, but Crittenden hit 7-of-11 at the free throw line in the final quarter to seal the win. The Lady Wildcats finished the game shooting just 10-of-39 from the field (25-percent).

Oliver led Trigg County with 14 points and 15 rebounds. Adri Phillips added six points and seven rebounds.

The Lady Wildcats have lost 44 straight games to district opponents dating back to 2012 and will be the No. 4 seed in the Fifth District Tournament for the sixth straight year. Livingston Central’s win over Lyon County Thursday assures the Lady Cardinals of the No. 1 seed.

Crittenden County (9-7, 3-2) got 15 points and 12 rebounds from Madison Champion. Mauri Collins added nine points.

Trigg County (6-10, 0-5) is scheduled to host Madisonville Saturday. They will also host Union County Thursday.
