Lyons Topple Crittenden County for Second Win

The Lyon County Lyons picked up their second win of the season on Friday night, going on the road and knocking off 5th District foe Crittenden County 61-43.  The Lyons now stand at 2-10 and the Rockets slip to 2-9.

The Lyons fell behind early, trailing 18-14 after one quarter, but stepped up their defensive effort to hold the Rockets to only 6 second-quarter points.  Lyon County only managed 11, but it was enough to give them a 25-24 halftime lead.

Junior guard Gabe Board led the Lyons in scoring with 10, followed by senior forward Max Wadlington  with 7, all from the free throw line.  Freshman Preston Turley scored 10 for the Rockets, and junior Hunter Boone had 6.

The Lyons roared out of the halftime break, overwhelming the Rockets 24-9 to blow the game open and take a 49-33 lead into the final quarter.  Board poured in 10, and freshman guard Travis Yancy had 8 to put the game out of reach.  The Lyons saw out the game in the fourth, topping Crittenden 12-10 on the way to the 61-43 win.

Board was the high-point man for the the Lyons with 22, while Wadlington finished with 15.  Yancy had 11, junior center Gabe DeFew scored 6, and senior forward Matthew Brown added 4.  Turley finished with 13 and Boone ended up with 10 for the Rockets.

The Lyons have a week off until their next game when they host the 10-7 Livingston Central Cardinals.  The Cardinals came out on top in the first meeting in early December, winning 65-60 in Smithland.
