Caldwell County girls’ coach Malissa Thomas wanted to see how her team bounced back after a 19-point loss to Ballard Memorial Thursday. She has to be pleased with what she saw.

The Lady Tigers notched a pair of close wins Friday to close out play with a 2-1 record in their West Kentucky Hoops Fest. Caldwell edged Calloway County 53-52 in the opener and later beat Corinth, MS 49-45.

The game with the Lady Lakers was a close one, featuring six ties and eight lead changes with an early 13-6 Caldwell lead the largest of the game.

Peyton Young knocked down four second half 3-pointers to answer every Calloway surge and finished with 14 points and four assists. Jacey Jaggers consistently made big shots down the stretch and finished with 21 points and six rebounds. Jada Boyd added nine points and nine assists.

Calloway County sophomore Charlee Settle, who scored her 1,000th career point Thursday, led the Lady Lakers with 28 points and 14 rebounds but was the lone Lady Laker to reach double figures. Calloway had a good look at a 10-footer at the final horn, but the show was no good and gave Caldwell the win.

It was a big turnaround for Caldwell County, who lost to Calloway 61-33 in a shootout at Murray High School last February.

Three hours later, Caldwell held off a late Corinth rally to grab a four-point win. The Lady Tigers led 43-34 but saw the Lady Warriors get to within three points late.

Bella McConnell paced four Caldwell players in double figures with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Jacey Jaggers added 14 points, and Peyton Young and Jada Boyd each scored 10 points. Boyd also had five assists.

Corinth was led by Kristen Herman’s 22 points and 18 rebounds.

The Lady Tigers (8-4) host Dawson Springs Thursday in a Seventh District matchup at the CAB.
