The Hopkinsville girls’ basketball team cruised to a 60-24 win over Warren Central at the FNB Holiday Bash at South Warren, its second blow out of the day after beating Jenkins 85-42 earlier. Warren Central falls to 2-9 and has lost 8 straight, while the Lady Tigers improve to 11-3 and have won 5 of 6.
Hopkinsville put the game away early, outscoring the Lady Dragons 17-5 in the first quarter, and leading 31-16 at the half. The Lady Tigers erased any chance of a Warren Central comeback in the third quarter, holding them to only 3 points and adding 17 of their own. The Lady Dragons only managed 5 points in the final quarter, while Hopkinsville tacked on 12 for the final 60-24 score.
Junior forward Jayla Rose led the Lady Tigers with 16, including 14 in the first half. Point guards, junior Breon Oldham and senior London Foster, both scored 11, and senior center Zakyra Stallworth finished with 8. Wrapping up the scoring were junior guard Yogianah McKnight and freshman forward Lakayla Samuel with 7 each.
Things promise to get more interesting for the Lady Tigers on Friday, as they have a 5:00 PM match-up with 13-1 Campbell County up next.
