A tough afternoon Tuesday for the UHA Lady Blazers in their first game in the Warren East Holiday Hoops Classic. The Monroe County Lady Falcons got a big lead early in the game and never looked back on their way to a 71-27 win.
Monroe County got out of the gate fast, blitzing the Lady Blazers out of the game on their way to a 17-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Monroe County defense limited UHA to one field goal in the quarter.
In the second quarter, UHA got their offense on track, but could not contain the Lady Falcons on the other end of the court. Monroe County outscored the Lady Blazers 27-16 in the 2nd quarter, on their way to a 44-20 lead at the half.
UHA struggles on the offensive end returned in the second half, as the Lady Blazers scored only 2 points in the 3rd quarter and 5 points in the 4th quarter, as Monroe County salted the game away.
UHA was led by Anshanique Leavell with 9 points and Lily Hendricks with 7. Monroe County was paced by Ashley Gearld with 16.
The Lady Blazers fall to 2-5, while the Lady Falcons improved to 4-3. UHA will play Christ Presbyterian Academy Wednesday in the consolation bracket at 5pm. CPA dropped a first round contest to Glasgow 47-30.
