The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers saw their five game winning streak come to an end Saturday against one of the contenders in the 3rd Region. Hoptown fell to Owensboro Catholic 51-39 in the Donnie Watkins Christmas Classic at Muhlenberg County High School.
The game was a back and forth contest through the first quarter, with the Lady Aces lead 12-11 after the first. Catholic’s defense changed the flow of the game in the second quarter, as they limited the Lady Tigers to only five points in the quarter. The Lady Aces headed off to the locker room holding a 24-16 lead.
Hopkinsville began the third quarter trying to fight their way back into the contest. The Lady Tigers trimmed the lead to 26-21 about halfway through the period, only to see the Lady Aces storm back to extend the lead to 36-25 after three quarters.
Hopkinsville tried again in the 4th quarter to rally, and got the lead down to seven points, but Owensboro Catholic was able to do enough to win down the stretch, as the Lady Aces pulled back out to the final 12 point margin.
With the loss, the Lady Tigers fall to 6-2 on the season. Owensboro Catholic improves to 6-1.
