After a battle for three quarters, the Christian County Lady Colonels broke open a close game late in the 4th quarter on their way to a 73-61 win over the Calloway County Lady Lakers Friday night in Murray. The win was the 4th in a row for the Lady Colonels since their only loss on December 8 at Bullitt East.
As one might expect, the Lady Laker opened the game focusing a great deal of attention on Christian County center Trinitee Jackson. With the defense racheted up, the Lady Lakers opened the contest on a 9-2 run. Calloway County would end the first quarter holding an 18-12 lead.
In the second quarter, the Lady Lakers extended the lead out to nine points at 29-20. Christian County then began to battle back in the final minutes of the first half. The Lady Colonels outscored Calloway County the rest of the way in the first half 14-3 to take a 34-32 lead into the locker room.
The two teams continued to battle back and forth in the third quarter. Christian County had a 9-2 run to open the quarter, only to see Calloway County put together a 9-0 run of their own. The quarter ended with Christian County holding to a 52-48 lead.
The battle continued deep into the 4th quarter, before the Lady Colonels were finally able to put Calloway County away. Christian County got out to a ten point lead in the final two minutes and then held on for the double digit win.
Christian County got a spectacular effort from Laderia Gold, who led the Lady Colonels with 27 points and nine steals. Trinitee Jackson got things going in the second half and ended up with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Kinara Phillips added 14 points and three steals.
