The Todd County Central girls’ basketball team used a huge second half to drop visiting Russellville 52-28 Friday night.  The Lady Rebels move to 2-4 on the season and 1-0 in their district, while the Lady Panthers fall to 0-4.

The Lady Rebels played with an elevated defensive intensity from the opening whistle, leading 10-7 after the first quarter, but having to settle for a 22-22 score going into halftime.  Junior guard Amy Brumfield paced Todd County with 9 first half points.

The Lady Rebels began the second half with a 3/4 press, and continued to tighten the defensive screws.  They outscored the Lady Panthers 19-2 in the third quarter, blowing the game open and taking a 41-24 lead into the fourth quarter.  They were able to rest their starters for much of the final frame, but still managed to outscore Russellville 30-6 in the second half on the way to the final 52-28 score.

Todd County spread the scoring around, with nine girls getting on the score sheet.  Brumfield finished with 11 to lead the team, with freshman center Makayla Artis scoring 10.  Junior guards Paige Rager and Jasmine Mimms had 8 and 7, respectively, and sophomore guard Jordan Weathers chipped in 5.  Senior guard Alexis O’Daniel hit a first half three pointer, and seniors Tatyana Peterson and Natalie Groves both had a basket.

The Lady Rebels are off for a week, before traveling to Logan County (3-1) for another 13th District showdown.
