Trigg County battled to overcome a pair of second half double digit deficits but in the end, Crittenden County staved them off with a strong performance at the free throw line in a 46-39 win over the Lady Wildcats Friday in Marion.

The Lady Wildcats trailed 36-22 heading into the fourth quarter but started the frame on an 8-1 run, with four of the points coming from Rylee Bush.

Crittenden then pushed their lead out to 44-32 on a Shelby Summers bucket with 2:14 left. However, Trigg scored six straight points over the next minute to trim the lead to 44-38 but would get no closer.

Because of early foul trouble, Coach Cory Coble was forced to use his bench, with Trigg’s reserves outscoring Crittenden’s 6-2.

Freshman Adri Phillips led Trigg County with nine points and nine rebounds. Lauren Oliver added eight points and eight rebounds, and Bush scored seven points. Bethany Stallons scored six points, and DeDe Barbie came off the bench to score four.

Madison Champion was the lone Lady Rocket to reach double figures with 19 points and eight rebounds. Nahla Woodward added nine points.

Another bright spot for the Lady Wildcats was their ability to take care of the basketball. Trigg only had 11 turnovers which led to 16 more field goal attempts than the Lady Rockets. However, the early foul trouble meant more free throws for Crittenden, who hit 19-of-26 at the charity stripe. Trigg was 4-of-8 at the line.

Trigg County (1-1) returns to action Saturday when they play Frederick Fraize and Whitesville Trinity in a pair of games at Trinity.
