Evidently, basketball coaches across the state believe the girls 2nd Region will come down to a battle of the Lady Colonels. The Courier Journal Tuesday morning released its preseason girls basketball poll, which had two teams from the 2nd Region ranked in the Top 25.
The defending 2nd Region champion Henderson County Lady Colonels were ranked 19th in the poll, with the Christian County Lady Colonels ranked right behind them at #20.
Henderson County has won the last five 2nd Region titles. Henderson went 28-6 last season, losing in the quarterfinal round of the Sweet 16 to Holmes.
Christian County went 17-14 last season, losing to Webster County 49-48 in the region seminfinals.
Mercer County, the defending state champion was ranked #1 in the preseason coaches’ poll. Sacred Heart was second, Male third, and defending 1st Region champion Murray was ranked 4th.
The only other western Kentucky team ranked in the Top 25 was Owensboro Catholic, who came in at #21.
