HCA Finishes Second at Turkey Tip-Off Classic

Heritage Christian Academy finished 3-1 and took second place Saturday at the Turkey Tip-off Classic at Bowling Green Christian Academy.

Gavin Fowler and Dalton Folz each scored 16 points to lead the Warriors to a 70-46 win over West Academy of Dickson, Tennessee in the opening game Friday. HCA broke open a tie game with a 29-16 second quarter run to lead 36-23 at halftime. A 19-9 run in the third quarter sealed the win for HCA. Rajah Mills and Josh Jones each scored nine points, and Kam Cunningham hit a pair of 3-pointers to finish with eight points.

In their second game, Daniel Academy of Cookeville, TN hit a shot with two seconds left to hand HCA their first loss of the season 68-66. The Lions led 34-32 at halftime, but outscored HCA 21-15 in the third quarter before a Warrior rally fell short. Folz hit three of HCA’s seven 3-pointers to finish with 20 points, while Fowler scored 11 of his 20 points in the second quarter. Mills joined them in double figures with 12 points for HCA, who hit just 14-of-25 at the free throw line.

HCA took out the frustration of their only loss on the host school, Bowling Green Christian with an 81-43 win. The Warriors scored 20 points in each of the first two quarter to build a 40-22 lead at halftime. Fowler hit four of HCA’s eight 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 23 points. Mills scored 14 points, Austin Crawford added 13 points and Folz scored 11 to pace four Warriors in double figures.

HCA moved to 5-1 on the season with an 86-25 drubbing of Highland Rim School of Fayetteville, Tennessee. Nine different players scored for the Warriors, with Fowler and David Crunk leading the way with 15 points.

Cunningham added 13 points, Folz scored 10, and Gabe Price nine for the Warriors, who drained ten 3-pointers in the contest.

Heritage Christian returns to action Monday night when they host Community Christian in a KCAA contest at 7pm at Warrior Gym.
