The University Heights Academy boys’ soccer team experienced a resurgence in 2017, posting a 12-8-2 record, the program’s first winning record since 2013. The Blazers won 6 of their last 9, losing in the 8th District championship to Hopkinsville and falling in the first round of the 2nd Region Tournament to Madisonville-North Hopkins in overtime. It was the first regional tournament appearance since a 2013 semifinal run.
The Blazers only graduate 2 seniors, and return leading scorer Ian Calvert (19 goals), as well as Tanner Thomas (14 goals), Simon East (13 goals), and William Bryan (11 goals). Calvert also led the Blazers in assists with 25. Goalkeeper Daniel Johnson returns as well after posting 11 shutouts.
The Blazers seem well positioned to challenge for the 8th District title in 2018, with perennial kings Hopkinsville losing 11 seniors.
