There were some people in the Russellville community who questioned hiring the middle school coach to try and turn around the Logan County football program. The Cougars had some outside applicants but turned to Logan County alum Todd Adler in 2016 to try and rebuild a program that entered the season having lost 33 straight games.
After coaching the Logan County Middle School program for three seasons, he decided the time was right to seek out his first head coaching job at the high school level. Adler was also part of a turnaround as a Logan County player. The Cougars won three games in his first three seasons as a player but posted a 6-5 record his senior season in 2003.
After snapping a 42-game winning streak in the regular season finale last year, the Cougars are off to a school-record 9-0 record in 2017 and have clinched the regular season district title and home field advantage in the playoffs.
District wins over Hopkinsville and Madisonville came inside the final minute as the Cougars were 4-0 in district play.
Logan County will host Todd County Central Friday as they attempt the first 10-0 regular season in school history and surpass the 1998 team that won nine games.
Logan County has won only two playoff games in program history but will try and add a third to the list when they host Warren Central Nov. 3.
