Trigg County heads into their bye week on a downer, losing Friday at Union County 44-12. The host Braves jumped out to a 23-0 first quarter lead and returned three interceptions for scores in the contest. The loss means Trigg County will be a four-seed in the playoffs and will travel to Elizabethtown, the fifth-ranked team in Class 3A, in the first round.

Union County’s run game gashed the Wildcats all night, with Chris Bledsoe rushing for 122 yards on 16 carries and a touchdown. Renalto Savage, who rushed for 88 yards on five carries, added a 57-yard scoring run in the first quarter. For the game, Union County ran the football 23 times for 209 yards.

Trigg County, meanwhile, struggled to move the football in a first half that saw them get just four first downs and 75 yards. Wildcat quarterbacks threw three pick sixes in the contest, two of them returned by Lincoln Sisk for their final two scores.

Union County ended up outgaining Trigg County 299-188, with the Braves running just seven plays in the second half due to a running clock.

Jakobe Bridges, who threw for 264 yards and two scores in last week’s 53-14 win over Hopkins County Central, did not complete any of his three attempts, which included a Brant Collins pix-six in the first quarter.

Cam Jordan was 5-of-10 passing for 44 yards, and added 48 yards rushing on ten carries.

The Wildcats close out the regular season with a record of 5-5. After missing the postseason each of the last two years, the Wildcats will play at Elizabethtown in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs on Nov. 3.
