Hopkinsville is coming off their biggest win of the season Tuesday in a shootout win over Henderson County in the semifinals of the Second Region Boys’ Soccer Tournament. However, they must quickly move past that contest as they play Madisonville Thursday night for the region title at 6pm at the Stadium of Champions.
Hopkinsville beat Madisonville 8-2 back on August 29, but still have a lingering memory of how the Maroons upset them two years ago in the region semifinals. That was a Hoptown team that was 22-2 and had not lost a game to a region opponent all season.
Hopkinsville has won eighth straight games and enters the title match with a record of 18-4-1. They are looking for the school’s third region title in four seasons.
Madisonville (11-8-1) has won four straight matches and have advanced to the region championship match two other times since realignment placed them in the Second Region in 2012. Their last region title came in 2007 when they were a member of the Third Region.
