The Caldwell County Lady Tigers scored in the final two minutes of the first half, and then made that goal hold up, as they defeated Madisonville 1-0 Tuesday night in a big 7th District girls soccer matchup. Laney Fletcher scored a header on a rebound of a missed free kick to put Caldwell County in front for good.

The night began with Madisonville on the attack for the first 20 minutes, however the Lady Tigers got strong defensive play from Meridan Giannini and goalie Dru Hadley Thomas to hold the Lady Maroons at bay. Caldwell County seemed to control the next 20 minutes, and carried the momentum to the break after Fletcher’s goal.

The Lady Tigers carried the momentum over to the first 20 minutes of the second half, but could not extend their lead. The Lady Maroons then turned up the pressure, but the Caldwell County defense had the answers and held on for the win. With the victory, Caldwell County goes to 5-3 on the season, and grabs control of the race for the top seed in the 7th District. Madisonville falls to 3-2-2.

Afterwards, YourSportsEdge spoke to Laney Fletcher, who scored the night’s only goal.
