Thursday marked the first time a Trigg County head coach squared off against their spouse who was coaching the opposition. Doug Hargrove’s Lady Wildcat volleyball team needed five sets to beat Fort Campbell, coach by his wife Mindy, by the score of 25-12, 25-13, 21-25, 16-25, 15-12.
Trigg used the strong service game of Lauren Oliver and powerful hitting of Lexie Wright to jump out to an 11-0 lead in the first set. The Lady Wildcats again used a fast start in the second set to lead 14-5 on their way to a 25-13 win.
Fort Campbell battled back in the third set behind strong net play from Jahlyn Mincey and Emma Syester to win 25-21. After the Lady Falcons claimed the fourth set, Trigg County got out to a 9-3 start in the fifth and deciding set and held on for the five-set win.
Wright finished with 16 kills and three blocks, while Lauren Oliver had six kills and six aces. Nyree Wilson chipped in with five kills and nine blocks.
Mincey led Fort Campbell with seven kills and five blocks. Syester had five kills, and Jordan Harter, the lone senior on the squad, had three kills.
Trigg County (1-1) hosts Madisonville Tuesday, while Fort Campbell (0-3) hosts Russellville Thursday.
