While there was promise for the defense, the offense struggled for the Tennessee Titans in their preseason opener Saturday. The Titans fell to the New York Jets 7-3 at MetLife Stadium. The good news for the offense was the return of Marcus Mariota after suffering a broken leg late in the 2016 season.
One of the problems for the Titans offensively was protection. Titans quarterbacks were sacked a total of eight times on the night. Titans head coach Mike Mularkey was not happy with the way his team came out of the gate Saturday saying that his team’s start was “not good enough. A bright spot on offense was the play of rookie receiver Taywan Taylor. Taylor, a third-round pick from Western Kentucky, caught four passes for 56 yards.
On the other side of the ball, the Titans gave up some big plays early, but still managed to recover and hold the Jets to only seven points on the night.
Tennessee returns to the field Saturday afternoon for their first home exhibition game of the season against the Carolina Panthers.
